“The British Society for Oral Medicine (BSOM) seeks to improve the quality of life of patients who fall within the scope of the specialty by promoting excellence in clinical care, research and education.”
A welcome from the President of BSOM
Ms Penelope Shirlaw, Consultant in Oral Medicine, London
I am honoured to be serving as President of the British Society for Oral Medicine which is dedicated to advancing the field of Oral Medicine. The Society is funded through the subscriptions of members, and through funds generated from the Annual Scientific Meetings which attract members and guests as well as industry sponsors.
Oral Medicine is the dental specialty that bridges the gap between medicine and dentistry and many clinicians working in this field have very strong links with their medical colleagues, working within all health care settings from primary care to hospitals. Oral Medicine is an academic dental specialty contributing significantly to the education of the next generation of the dental team, as well as conducting clinical research to improve the lives of our patients.
The Society aims to support clinical practice, research and training to promote patient care and the aim of Oral Medicine clinicians is to promote better health.
I look forward to contributing to the specialty during my term as President.
