An exciting programme of speakers for the BSOM Winter Meeting has been announced.  The event is taking place on the 25th November 2017 at the Eastman Dental Hospital and full details and information about abstract submission and prizes are available through the BSOM Meetings page.  The event is free for BSOM members.

 

 

BSOM Fellow awarded the AAOM Samuel Charles Miller Award

BSOM is delighted to hear that Professor Stephen Challacombe, Emeritus Professor of Oral Medicine at Kings College, London has been honoured with the Samuel Charles Miller award for 2018 by the American Academy of Oral Medicine.  This award is given annually by the Board and Trustees of the AAOM in recognition of the recipient’s outstanding lifetime contribution to Oral Medicine.

Professor Challacombe is reported to be honoured and delighted to be the recipient of the award.   He will deliver the award lecture at the AAOM meeting in San Antonio, Texas in April 2018.

NEW BSOM Patient Information leaflets

New BSOM information leaflets have been published today.  These cover the use of Betamethasone, Flixonase and Prednisolone mouthwashes.  A leaflet on the use of Prednisolone 5mg tablets is also available.

Joint BSOM and WWOMVII Study Day 2017

This meeting will be held at KCL, London Bridge and is titled “Future Proofing Oral Medicine: are we ready for the next 20 years?”

Vanancy – Specilaty Dentist in Oral Medicine, Glasgow Dental Hospital & School

This is a full-time post based at the Glasgow Dental Hospital & School. The prime clinical role of the post will be to provide a specialist service for local general dental and medical practitioners for outpatients with complex oral mucosal disease, patients with oral disease occurring as a manifestation of systemic disease and patients with complex facial pain. It is expected that you will support the service re-design work already underway, which will support diagnostic treatment and where appropriate shared care pathway with primary care clinicians. There is no out of hours on call commitment however there is an on- call rota and second cover Rota to ensure that an Oral Medicine opinion can be provided during working hours. BSOM Annual Scientific Meeting 2017

I am delighted to invite you to the Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Oral Medicine which will take place on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th April 2017 in Dublin.  The conference venue is the Herbert Park Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. www.herbertparkhotel.ie  Details on the programme, registration and abstract submission will follow shortly. Accommodation can be booked directly with the hotel or there are numerous other accommodation alternatives in the vicinity. 

Dr. Alan Mighell will be organising the Speciality Training Forum which will take place on Wednesday 5th April in the Dublin Dental University Hospital, Trinity College Dublin, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2.

BSOM Winter Meeting 2016

The BSOM Winter Meeting will take place on 12th November 2016.

This years’ BSOM Winter meeting will be a “Sjogren’s Syndrome” theme and will take place in the Lecture Theatre, Floor 18, Guy’s Hospital, London

We are happy to welcome Dr Jackie Brown, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals to speak to us about imaging in salivary gland disease. Dr Genevieve Larkin, Consultant Ophthalmologist, King’s College and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals will discuss management strategies for ocular disease in Sjogren’s. Dr Lydia Rodney, Clinical Psychologist, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, will speak about psychology related to oral health and her experience with this patient cohort. Ms Pepe Shirlaw, Guy’s & St Thomas’Hospitals, will discuss recent advances in management of Sjogren’s.

Dental or Medical Undergraduates are also invited to attend this event to further their Oral Medicine knowledge and explore this fascinating specialty. Graduate-entry Medicine course to be started in Scotland in 2018

The Scottish Government has announced that a new Graduate-entry medical course will be started in 2018 based at the universities of St Andrews and Dundee medical schools, but administered with the University of the Highlands and Islands. Dental graduates looking at a career in Oral Medicine would be eligible for this course which is specifically tailored to graduate entrants. It will be a 4 year course and further details of the First Minister’s announcement can be found at:
