Dr Daniella Ion has been appointed to the specialty training programme based at Guys Dental Hospital, London and will take up the post in November 2013
Dr John Hamburger has retired as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Oral Medicine in Birmingham, but will continue delivery of some teaching clinics on a part-time basis. Dr Hamburger has led the expansion of the local Oral Medicine service and establishment of multi-disciplinary clinics as well as leading on academic matters locally over many years. He is a former President of the Society.
Professor Martin Thornhill has retired as Professor of Oral Medicine and honorary consultant in Sheffield, but will continue leading research on a part-time basis at the University. Professor Thornhill has held chairs in Manchester, London and Texas, USA as well as in Sheffield.
Dr Michael Escudier, Senior Lecturer & Honorary Consultant in Oral Medicine at King’s College London Dental Institute has been elected to the role of Junior Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
The BSOM Annual Scientific Meeting BST (Basic Science & Translational Research) Oral Prize was awarded to Dr Martina Shephard (Eastman Dental Hospital, London) for the study ‘The 2011 BAD guidelines for azathioprine prescribing – should they be used in oral medicine practice?
