The Unit of Oral Medicine in Manchester is long established. It provides services for the
investigation, diagnosis and medical management of oral diseases and the oral manifestations
of systemic disease. These include diseases of the gastrointestinal, dermatological,
rheumatological and haematological systems, autoimmune and deficiency disorders and the
manifestations of neurological disease. The department has particular interests in the medical
management of oral ulceration, precancerous oral lesions, mucocutaneous disease, salivary
gland disease, and infections of the oral cavity. There is close collaboration with our surgical
colleagues and other medical and dental specialist departments. Joint clinics are run for
mucocutaneous disease and Behcets disease. We are able to offer a wide range of
investigational techniques.

We accept referrals from general dental practitioners, general medical practitioners, and
consultants in other dental and medical specialties. We are always happy to discuss cases
prior to referral if desired.
