The Unit of Oral Medicine at Liverpool University Dental Hospital is led by Anne Field and currently sees over 2000 new patients per year. It provides a comprehensive Oral Medicine service for Merseyside and Cheshire. Referrals are also received from other parts of the North West, Isle of Man and North Wales. The Unit has close links with the Department of Oral Medicine at Manchester Dental School. Multidisciplinary clinics are held for patients with Sjögren’s Syndrome (SS), chronic facial pain (liaison psychiatrist in attendance) and dysplastic oral lesions. The Unit has an international reputation for research into the pathogenesis of Sjögren’s Syndrome and is currently investigating diagnostic markers and therapeutic interventions for this chronic disease. Referrals are welcome from medical and dental practitioners as well as consultants in other clinical disciplines.
