The unit of Oral Medicine at Sheffield is led by Dr Christine Yeoman, Professor Thornhill and Dr Anne
Hegarty.  The Unit services Oral Medicine in Sheffield and the Trent region.   Nine clinics are held
weekly at the Dental Hospital in a dedicated Oral Medicine clinic.  

The unit provides services for the investigation, diagnosis and management of oral diseases and oral
manifestations of systemic disease.  The unit has specific interest in mucocutaneous disorders, orofacial
granulomatosis and oral manifestations of gastrointestinal diseases, allergy, Sjögrens syndrome and
pre-cancerous lesions.  There are well established links with all dental and medical specialities both within
Sheffield and the region.  Joint clinics are established for pre-cancerous lesions and mucocutaneous
disorders including Behçets syndrome and also for paediatric Oral Medicine problems.  An allergy and
patch testing clinic is also established.

Referrals are accepted from general Dental and Medical Practitioners and Consultants in Dental and
Medical specialities.  All referrals are screened and prioritised by the Consultants.  Practitioners wishing
for advice regarding a patient may contact the unit and we are happy to discuss cases.
