Competencies in Oral Medicine, May 2003

Following circulation of the various sections of the competency document Fellows and Fellows
in Training were invited to submit comments on each statement in the document. Thereafter all
the comments were collated and each statement in the document was discussed by a small Focus
Group over a two day period prior to the Annual Scientific meeting in Dundee. The Focus Group
comprised Tim Hodgson, David Felix, Alan Mighell, Mike Pemberton and Mike Lewis together
with valuable input from Linda Prescott, Research Officer with NHS Education for Scotland.

A final draft was developed and submitted to the Specialist Advisory Committee for the
Additional Dental Specialties in May 2003 where it was agreed that this document will form the

blueprint for assessment in the future.
