BSOM Council, December 2005

Professor Farida Fortune CBE has completed her three year term as a member of BSOM
Council. Dr. Alan Mighell has been elected by the Fellows of the Society to serve on Council until 2008.

SpR Appointment at The Eastman, September 2005

Dr. Shahid Chaudry has recently been appointed SpR in Oral Medicine at the Eastman Dental
Institute in London and will take up the post in mid October. Dr Chaudry is returning to the
specialty following posts in general medicine and more recently dermatology.

Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination (ISFE), April 2005

Congratulations to Dr. Rigel Allan on her success in the June 2005 diet of the ISFE in Oral
Medicine. This will allow Dr. Allan’s name to be included on the GDC specialist list for
Oral Medicine.

Oral Dryness Week, June 2005

A commercial company is promoting an ‘oral dryness week’ from June 6th to promote the
Problems faced by patients with this common condition. Senior members of the Society have been invited to meet with members of the media to support of this venture.

Professor Martin Thornhill, April 2005

Professor Martin Thornhill will be returning to the United Kingdom to take up the Chair of Oral

Medicine at Sheffield University. For the last three years Professor Thornhill has been Chairman
Of the Department of Dental Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Texas, San Antonio, USA. The Society wishes Professor Thornhill success in his new post.

Professor Crispian Scully CBE, March 2005

The prestigious Royal Society of Medicine and Society of Authors prize for the Best New Book
has recently been awarded to Professor Crispian Scully
CBE, for his book entitled Oral and
Maxillofacial Medicine
.


Professor Newell Johnson, February 2005

The contribution of Professor Newell Johnson to the advancement of oral health research will be
formally recognised in Baltimore next month when he receives the IADR Distinguished Scientist
Award in Oral Medicine & Pathology. The Society extends it ‘s congratulations to Professor
Johnson on this achievement and also passes on warm wishes for the future as Professor Johnson leaves London to become Dean of Griffiths Dental School in Australia.

British Sjogren's Syndrome Association Research Grant, January 2005

The British Sjogren's Syndrome Association (Registered Charity No 1101571) are pleased
to invite applications for a research grant of up to £10,000 to be awarded to a suitable
project researching into the cause and/or treatment of Sjögren's Syndrome later in 2005.
