FOURTH WORLD WORKSHOP ON ORAL MEDICINE

The ‘Fourth World Workshop on Oral Medicine’ held in Puerto Rico in 2006 was co-organised by Professor David Wray (former President of the Society). Several Society members contributed to an evidenced-based review of current understanding of 10 topics:

Use of prophylactic antifungals in the immunocompromisd host;

Management of recurrent oral herpes simplex infections;

Management of oral epithelial dysplasia: a review;

4

Oral lichen planus and oral lichenoid reactions: diagnostic & therapeutic considerations;

Management of neuropathic orofacial pain;

6

Management of burning mouth syndrome: systematic review and management recommendations;

7

Management of dent patients taking common hemostasis-altering medications;

8

Management of oral lesions in HIV-positive patients;

9

Salivary dysfunction associated with systemic diseases: systematic review and clinical management;

10

Management of salivary hypofunction during and after radiotherapy.


The key points emerging from the workshop were published in a special supplement to the March 2007 edition of ‘Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endontology’.
