JUNIORS GROUP

The Juniors Group actively promotes the Society aims amongst any members who are
ineligible to be Fellows, but particularly amongst:

OO• Junior dentists considering a career in Oral Medicine,

OO• Graduate clinicians who are undertaking a second undergraduate clinical degree (either

.....OMedicine or Dentistry) so that they can compete for a specialist training post in Oral Medicine

OO• Fellows-in-Training.

The Group is inclusive and Society members with established careers in Oral Medicine also

regularly contribute to the Groups activities.

The Groups activities are coordinated by the Fellow-in-Training Representative.

This is currently Dr. Anne Hegarty, Specialist Registrar in Oral Medicine at the Eastman Dental
Institute in London.

The responsibilities of the Fellow-in-Training Representative include:

O• Representing the Groups views at BSOM Council & communicating back to Group members

O• Organising the Group Meetings, as described below.

O• Acting as point of contact to Group members or those interested in joining.


Group Meetings

The Group formally meets twice a year. The first of these meetings is timed to coincide with
the BSOM Annual Conference in May, and the second is held prior to Christmas.

The format of recent meetings has included:

O• Clinical updates from Fellows of the Society and specialists from other clinical areas.
O• Presentations on other topics essential to the practice of Oral Medicine.
O• Discussion of issues of relevance to those wishing to pursue a career in Oral Medicine.
O• Clinical case presentations by members of the Group.

Research Enablement Travel Bursary, October 2007

BSOM Council is pleased to announce the availability of a travel bursary to support BSOM
members who wish to undertake a research project in an Oral Medicine unit in United Kingdom,
Ireland or further afield, whilst studying for the second mandatory undergraduate degree. Further
