Professor Mike Lewis, Cardiff - August 2010

Professor Mike Lewis has taken up the appointment of Dean of the Dental School at Cardiff University and Director of the Dental Division of the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.

 

StR Appointments in  London - August 2010

Dr Sabine Jurge has been appointed to a NIHR TCC Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) post that includes Oral Medicine Specialty Training Programme.  Dr Roddy McMillan has been appointed as StR in Oral Medicine.  Both appointments are at the Eastman Dental Institute (UCLH) in London.

 

Curriculum for Specialist Training in Oral Medicine - August 2010

The ‘Specialty Training Curriculum for Oral Medicine’ has been approved by the General Dental Council.  This broadens the opportunities for entry to specialist training.

 

Professor Martin Thornhill, Non-Invasive Test for Oral Cancer - August 2010:

A new non-invasive test for oral cancer being developed by a research team lead by Professor Martin Thornhill at the University of Sheffield was featured in the media, including the BBC.  

 

Professor Scully CBE - Honorary Degree, Helsinki - June 2010

Professor Crispian Scully CBE has received a doctorate from the University of Helsinki, Finland in recognition of his international leadership in oral medicine and pathology, and in special care dentistry.  In particular the honorary award acknowledges his discovery of viral nucleic acids in oral cancer which, with further studies, established a viral aetiology for a range of oral neoplasms and implicated sexual transmission.

 

BSOM Strategic Review - June 2010

Dr Alex Crighton will chair a working group with the remit of preparing a revised strategy for the Society.  

 

StR Appointment in  Manchester - June 2010

Dr Jennifer Taylor has been appointed as StR in Oral Medicine in Manchester.

 

BSOM Members Representative - May 2010
